Hello good people? How is the month coming along? Rather swiftly on my side I must say…
First things first, could I have chosen a more obvious blog post title? No. Do I regret this decision? Not all. Would I do it again? Probably.
Second, I’m doing a different kind of post, again. The first one was here. This time round, the photos are not my typical everyday ones, and i’m not talking about the outfit, at all.
In my previous post, I mentioned that I was going to Dar Es Salaam for Swahili Fashion Week. I cannot talk about the show because then I’d have to kill you first and we all don’t want that. Instead, I’ll regale you with tales of my first visit to Dar Es Salaam. Maybe not so many tales, cause who’s got the time to read an entire novel in one blogpost?
I loved Dar, I still love Dar, I will always love Dar. Nothing can come between the love that Dar and I share. At the top of my list, is the weather. It’s pretty hot, a welcome change from Nairobi’s cold weather. Scratch that. It was a welcome change from Nairobi’s then cold weather. Nairobi is so hot now, it’s like Dar sun moved here without the humidity.
We went to so many places, read restaurants, but I’ll tell you my must visit. Hyatt Regency is nice for sundowners, wonderful view of the ocean. We missed the sun because we were out shopping, at Splash, which is another must visit. Splash is basically the better version of Mr Price. Zuane is a quaint little Italian Restaurant. The food is pretty great and well priced too.
777 is where we ate most of the time, it was just around the corner from where we stayed. Their barbecue is fire, all puns intended. Turns out Tanzanians eat bbq a lot, maybe a lot more than us Kenyans. Cape Town Fish Market is cool if you wanna eat some fish, with a view of the ocean.
The only bummer is that we did not get to eat any of the local foods, and it’s not for lack of trying. We spent almost half a day trying to find where to eat. That is at the top of my to-do list next time I’m in Dar.
