I’m breaking regularly scheduled programming. Today is a food post. Completely unplanned too, but that’s what happens when you have a photographer friend.
Most people don’t know this about me, or are always surprised when they find out, but I love cooking. Apparently I don’t look like the girl who cooks, which makes me wonder how girls who cook look like. Common misconception, I think, that women who like fashion don’t/can’t/ won’t cook. Truth is, you’ve gotta be able to feed yourself one way or another.
That aside, I’ve been making this sandwich since late last year for different people. I stumbled on a version of it on Facebook, modified it and here we are. It quite literally gets better with time, a la wine. It’s really quite simple to make, once you get past all the “fancy” ingredients it needs.
4 slices of white bread
4 slices of cheese, I used Swiss Cheese slices found in any supermarket
Butter, softened. Margarine can also work
Bacon, you can use whichever kind you like
Pasta Sauce, You can also make your own sauce using tomatoes and onions. It’s healthier anyway
Makes 2 sandwiches
Heat the pan.
Fry the bacon to your liking, I like mine chewy. I didn’t add any oil to the pan, seeing as bacon already has its own oil.
Drain the oil from the bacon on a kitchen towel.
Apply butter on one side of the bread.
Remove any oil that is left on the pan from the bacon.
Reduce the heat to medium heat so as not to burn the bread.
Put the bread on the pan, with the side with butter facing down.
Apply the pasta sauce on the bread. Be careful not to put too much otherwise the bread will be soggy.
Next put the cheese slices, one on each side.
Finally put the already fried bacon last.
Put the two slices together, cut into two and voila, your sandwich is ready to be enjoyed.
What I love about this sandwich is that it’s super easy to make. That, and the fact that you don”t have to use the bacon. Just the cheese and the sauce are enough to make a bomb ass sandwich.
Thank you so much for reading. Tell me if you’d like to see more food posts. This is only the second one I’ve done. But if you’d like more regular recipes, some of my favourite food bloggers are Miss Mandi, Kaluhi’s Kitchen and Sweet and Spicy.
Have a good one,and if you do try this recipe, tag me at Liz Madowo on every social media except Snapchat. I’m just not about that life.
